Saudi Arabia Introduces New Services and Pricing Updates at Masjid Al-Haram

Saudi Arabia has introduced new operational updates at Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah to improve services for pilgrims. The new changes focus on transportation pricing, payment procedures, and accessibility support for elderly and disabled worshippers. While the updates aim to improve service quality, some pilgrims have expressed concerns about rising costs.

New Transportation and Accessibility Services

One of the main updates involves mobility assistance services inside the holy mosque. Last year, pilgrims could use electric golf carts to complete Tawaf and Sa’i for around SAR 100 per person. This year, the same service is reported to cost approximately SAR 300 per person, reflecting higher service and operational costs.

In addition to golf carts, manual wheelchairs with attendants, often called “captains” by pilgrims, are available for about SAR 200 for a full Umrah journey, including Tawaf and Sa’i. These services provide valuable support for pilgrims with mobility challenges, especially elderly visitors traveling long distances inside the mosque.

Payment and Service Improvements

The new regulations also aim to improve payment procedures by introducing more organized and digital payment systems. These changes are designed to reduce waiting times and help manage the large number of visitors during peak pilgrimage seasons.

Pilgrim Reactions and Accessibility Challenges

Many pilgrims appreciate the availability of assistance services but have shared concerns about affordability, especially for families traveling with elderly members. Some visitors also noted that electric scooters, which were previously available for independent use, are no longer offered as a standalone service. This has created challenges for pilgrims who prefer self-guided mobility options.

Supporting Pilgrims’ Experience

The updates aim to balance comfort, safety, and crowd management inside the holy site. Authorities continue to focus on improving service quality while managing the high demand for pilgrimage mobility support.
