Saudi Arabia has taken first place at the third International Nuclear Science Olympiad, securing four medals during the global competition hosted by King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. The Kingdom won two gold medals, one silver and one bronze, making it the top-performing country at this year’s competition. Held from August 2 to 9 under the theme “Bright Minds for a Promising Future,” the Olympiad brought together 120 students and scientific experts from 19 countries. Participants took part in a series of theoretical and practical examinations designed to test their knowledge and skills in nuclear science.
Saudi student Amjad Mahmoud Issa Al-Darwish delivered the Kingdom’s biggest win, taking first place overall and earning a gold medal. He achieved the highest combined score across the theoretical and practical examinations and was also awarded the title of “Nuclear Science Ambassador.” Fellow Saudi student Jana Saleh Abdullah Al-Sabil also secured a gold medal and was named the Olympiad’s Best Female Student. The award was presented by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Saudi Arabia’s remaining medals came from Abdulaziz Abdulmohsen Al-Sharait, who won silver, and Saleh Mubarak Dhaifallah Al-Harbi, who secured bronze. The results were announced at King Faisal Hall for Conventions following a week of competitions. The overall ranking was determined by participants’ combined scores in the theoretical and practical assessments. The achievement highlights Saudi Arabia’s growing focus on science, technology and developing young talent, while giving Saudi students the opportunity to compete alongside talented students from around the world. With four medals in total, including two golds and the overall individual title, Saudi Arabia finished the third International Nuclear Science Olympiad at the top of the rankings.
