Update: Saudi Arabia Approves New Drug to Treat Rare Lung Disease

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has officially approved the registration of Jascayd (nerandomilast) for adult patients suffering from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). IPF is a rare, chronic, and progressive condition characterized by irreversible scarring of the lung tissue, which severely impairs breathing and restricts overall lung function over time. As an innovative phosphodiesterase 4B (PDE4B) inhibitor, Jascayd works by targeting specific cellular pathways to reduce tissue inflammation and scarring, significantly slowing down the decline of lung capacity in affected individuals. The regulatory approval was backed by global Phase 3 clinical trial data demonstrating the drug’s safety and efficacy in mitigating disease progression.

Supported through the SFDA’s Orphan Drug Designation, this milestone expands specialized therapeutic options for patients battling rare, life-threatening conditions across the Kingdom. The prompt review process ensures that patients in Saudi Arabia gain access to cutting-edge treatments alongside global health markets.

Furthermore, this decision aligns directly with Saudi Arabia’s Health Sector Transformation Program under Vision 2030. By fostering rapid access to novel therapies, the Kingdom continues to reinforce its commitment to elevating national healthcare standards and providing world-class medical care
