Saudi Schools Enforce Strict No‑Retake Policy as First‑Term Exams Begin

As first‑term exams get underway in public schools across Saudi Arabia, education authorities have announced a firm policy: students who miss an exam without a valid excuse will not be permitted to retake it. The move is part of an effort to reinforce attendance, punctuality, and commitment to learning throughout the academic year.

Under the updated guidelines, only students with officially documented reasons for absence will be eligible for makeup assessments. Schools are also strengthening systems for tracking attendance and communicating with parents to ensure students remain engaged and present in their studies.

The policy aligns with broader efforts to standardize academic expectations and minimize preventable absences, particularly during Ramadan when attendance can fluctuate due to altered daily routines. In addition to the no‑retake rule, schools are emphasizing the importance of regular attendance, adherence to daily schedules, and clear communication between parents and educational staff.

Education officials say the approach is designed to support students in completing their exams on time while fostering a culture of responsibility and consistency that benefits learning outcomes throughout the school year.
