Riyadh’s beloved Souq al-Zal, one of the city’s oldest markets steeped in over a century of history, is set for a tasty transformation this Ramadan. Known for its narrow alleys, traditional shops, incense, oud, carpets and heritage products, the souq will soon be home to Azzal Street Food, a new open-air street food experience designed to bring local flavors and community energy to life.

Part of an initiative by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, Azzal Street Food aims to activate urban spaces with affordable, culturally rich food offerings that support local culinary talent and enhance the city’s vibrant atmosphere. While an official opening date has not yet been announced, this project promises a fresh way to enjoy classic Saudi snacks, Arabic coffee, dates and more against the backdrop of one of Riyadh’s most iconic heritage sites.
Souq al-Zal’s mix of tradition and contemporary food culture makes it the perfect setting for this new culinary destination, combining the echoes of the past with the tastes of today.
